OREM, Utah (Aug. 1, 2025) — Seven Castain brought more than luck to Utah United’s inaugural season.
The USL W League’s leading scorer helped lead the first-year expansion side to a league title in its first year, and Castain was recognized Friday with USL W League Player of the Year honors, the league announced.
The All-Big 12 striker at TCU from Draper, Utah, scored 17 goals during the regular season to earn USL W League Golden Boot honors, and added four postseason goals that included a goal in a 4-0 win over NC Courage U23 in the USL W Final in Provo, Utah.
“We are extremely happy for Seven,” Utah United head coach Scott Halasz said. “She embodies a lot of the characteristics we want our Utah United players to have, including dedication to bettering herself and her teammates through a commitment to training, an attitude of working for the team, and a deep love for the game. She is a great example for the young players in Utah.
“We know her summer success will translate to her success at TCU, and we all look forward to watching her this fall.”
Castain started 10 of 12 appearances during Utah United’s inaugural season, totaling 788 minutes en route to USL W League Mountain Division Player of the Year and All-League First-Team honors.
She also scored in bunches, including a league record-tying six goals against CISA in Utah’s largest win of the season.
“No one sees how much work she puts in,” Utah United assistant coach Alex Kimball said. “Outside of training throughout the summer, she puts in mental work and physical work.
“This award is no surprise if you know her habits.”
Castain will return to TCU this fall, where the rising senior and former Big 12 All-Freshman honoree in 2022 scored 22 goals with 11 assists in her first three seasons.
“Seven plays with a natural confidence in front of the goal,” Utah United president Jerry Pennock said. “She makes runs that make it challenging to defend. When she’s on the field, you just know she’s going to find a way to score, and it energizes the team.”
