Former Utah Royals coach Amy LePeilbet is sticking around Salt Lake City
The former URFC assistant coach and caretaker manager was named the third-ever head coach of the Salt Lake Community College women's soccer team Thursday, replacing Cassie Ulrich.
Salt Lake Community College has a new head coach of the school’s nationally renowned women’s soccer program, and Bruin fans already know her.
So do supporters of the former Utah Royals FC.
The Bruins announced the promotion of associate head coach Amy LePeilbet to serve as the program’s third-ever head coach, a week after Cassie Ulrich resigned to take an assistant coaching position at the University of Denver.
A graduate of Arizona State and former professional soccer player in the National Women’s Soccer League prior to her retirement, LePeilbet came to Utah as an assistant coach for the former Utah Royals and was head coach of the Utah Royals Reserve that led the team to the WPSL championship match in 2019.
LePeilbet coached several former college stars on that WPSL team, including BYU’s Mikayla Colohan Cluff and Cameron Tucker — who currently play for the Orlando Pride and Houston Dash in NWSL, respectively.
A year later, LePeilbet was tasked to be the caretaker manager of URFC before the club was sold and moved to Kansas City in 2020.
"Having someone of Amy's experience and knowledge of the game to lead SLCC women's soccer is a real asset to the school," SLCC athletic director Kevin Dustin said. "Amy's care for her athletes is what made this choice easy. She is universally respected in the soccer world and will allow the program to continue to excel. Amy is a wonderful colleague and a great collaborator. She will be able to surround herself with great assistant coaches and we look forward to this chapter in our growth as a department."
In addition to her time as an assistant under Ulrich, LePeilbet also coached in the U.S. national team’s youth system at the U23, U20 and U18 levels.
"I want to thank Athletic Director Kevin Dustin for the wonderful opportunity to lead the SLCC women's soccer team," she said. "I have loved being a part of this program over the last two seasons and I am very excited to continue with the team. We will work hard daily to carry on the success of the program."
A year after earning a No. 10 national seed en route to the NJCAA Tournament championship match, the Bruins open the 2023 fall season Aug. 19 against Central Wyoming College.
