It took new club-record signing Chicho Arango just 23 minutes to find his mark in his debut with Real Salt Lake. But he wasn't the only one.
Pablo Ruiz had three assists, and each of Arango, Justen Glad, Jefferson Savarino and super sub Anderson Julio each scored a goal as RSL romped to a 4-0 win over Orlando City SC.
Photographer Rob Gray from Utah Sporting News was on site for the debut of Arango, the club’s newest designated player who signed on a $6 million transfer fee with Pachuca in Liga MX less than a year ago.
But after terrorizing RSL en route to MLS Newcomer of the Year and MLS Cup honors, Arango now dons the Claret-and-Cobalt — which is surging towards the playoffs ahead of the midseason break for MLS All-Star and the Leagues Cup.
Real Salt Lake now sits at 9-7-6 with 33 points, tied for third in the Western Conference with LAFC (but fourth on goal differential) while maintaining the best road record in Major League Soccer at 6-3-2.
String together some wins at home, and RSL just might be on to something this year. Nights like July 8 won’t hurt, as Salt Lake improved to 3-4-4 at America First Field by snapping its club record-tying six-match winless drought at home — its longest since 2005 — with its eighth-straight result across all competitions.
