SANDY, Utah — The Utah Royals didn’t let Sophia Wilson’s fastest goal of the NWSL season set them back.

Cece Delzer scored her first career brace, and Cloé Lacasse etched her name into the URFC record book in a 5-1 win over the Portland Thorns that propelled the Royals back near the top of the NWSL standings.

Wilson needed 34 seconds to give the Thorns (8-4-6, 28 points) the early advantage. But Utah took advantage after the first-half hydration break as temperatures hit triple digits at kickoff to flip the script.

Delzer scored her first in the 31st minute, finishing a well-place sequence from Miyabi and Kiana Palacios to pull Utah (10-5-3, 33 points) level.

She then added her fourth goal in the past six matches two minutes after halftime, connecting with Lacasse’s cross that etched the Canadian international into the club record books with the most goal contributions in a single season (11).

Lacasse wasn’t done, though.

She set up Brecken Mozingo’s first goal of the year with another pinpoint cross in the 68th minute that stretched Utah’s advantage to 3-1. After Palacios pulled another back following an absurd bit of skill from Miyabi down the flank, Lacasse found Kate Del Fava for her second goal from a header to wrap up the scoring in the 88th minute for the final margin.
