Real Salt Lake draws Portland in Open Cup 4th round
The Cup Roadies will make a road trip to Providence Park for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup fourth round, May 9-10.
Add another road trip for Real Salt Lake.
After dispatching Las Vegas Lights FC 3-1 in extra time on the road, RSL will once again travel to Portland for the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, taking on the Timbers on Wednesday, May 10 at 8:30 p.m. MDT at Providence Park after the Group 3 draw conducted by U.S. Soccer on Thursday afternoon.
Every Group 3 team applied to host, but the random drew delivered home matches for Portland and the Los Angeles Galaxy from the group.
The group was formed around the geographic selection of Portland and Seattle, with LA and RSL joining via random selection (a coin toss), per U.S. Soccer.
Eight lower division teams remain, all from the Division 2 USL Championship after the eight remaining MLS teams join the competition for Round 4, including CONCACAF Champions League semifinalists LAFC and Philadelphia Union.
Three lower-division clubs will host a Round 4 matchup: Birmingham will host fellow USL Championship club Memphis 901 FC, which did not apply to host; former Real Monarchs head coach Mark Briggs and Sacramento Republic FC will host the Colorado Rapids; and Monterey Bay, led by former San Jose coach Frank Yallop, will host LAFC.
