Real Salt Lake just won (another) GA Cup championship
RSL Academy's U16 side took the 2025 Generation adidas Cup title with a 4-0 win Sunday over the LA Galaxy in Bradenton, Florida.
Real Salt Lake stormed to added another championship trophy Sunday.
Rylan Hashimoto and Van Parker both had a brace as the RSL Academy rolled past the LA Galaxy, 4-0 in the Generation adidas Cup U16 championship final in Bradenton, Florida.
“I can’t explain the feeling,” said Hashimoto after winning GA Cup final MVP honors. “So proud of the team; in the weeks coming up to GA Cup, we put in all this effort — and we got the result.
“I’m grateful to be out here, to get the opportunity to play for such a good team,” added Hashimoto, who is originally from Northern California. “We’ve been having some ups and downs, and it’s great that we finally have some success.”
It’s the Utah affiliate of MLS NEXT’s first GA Cup title since 2008, and comes under the direction of a former RSL Academy star who went on to a first-team career before medically retiring at a young age in 2019 in Jordan Allen.
“We had a great run throughout the tournament from the very beginning.” said Allen, who is still just 29 and in his fourth year coaching at the academy in Herriman, Utah. “I’m really proud, it means a lot to me to see the work that we put in over the last few years and to see those guys showcase themselves at such a big event.”
Hashimoto was named tournament co-MVP after scoring five goals, and all-tournament Best Goalkeeper Konstantinos Kyriazis led the RSL defense with five clean sheets.
Hashimoto, the team’s leading scorer who has been on fire through the tournament, gave Salt Lake the lead, finding a long through ball from Parker on a breakaway in the 10th minute before sliding a shot from inside the box home for the 1-0 advantage.
Parker doubled the advantage moments later, turning in a phone booth in the box before a goal in the top corner put RSL up 2-0 in the 12th minute — and Parker celebrated with a back flip at the corner flag.
Hashimoto secured his brace in the 45th minute, when he ripped a shot from distance into the upper 90 to give RSL a 3-0 advantage.
”It’s all my teammates,” said Hashimoto, who finished the final 318 minutes of the tournament without conceding a goal. “If I got within 30 yards, I’m just going to shoot. I’ve said that, and it came true.”
Parker added a brace of his own in the 56th minute, finding space behind the defense and rounding the corner with a shot inside the far post to put Salt Lake up 4-0 and help Allen’s side cruise to the finish.
”Coach Jordan is great,” Hashimoto said. “He lets us do a lot of stuff in the final third, show our creativity and our personality. It really comes up well for this team.”
