SANDY — Real Salt Lake and Major League Soccer are barreling full-steam toward the league’s move to the international calendar beginning with the 2027-28 season next fall.
But first, a sprint toward the starting line.
The club announced the 14-match slate Thursday in conjunction with MLS that kicks off Feb. 21, an all-Western Conference schedule featuring seven home and seven away matches that will serve as qualifying for the 2028 Concacaf Champions and 2028 Leagues Cup.
The season will culminate with a single-elimination postseason featuring the top eight teams from the West in the playoffs before the 2027 MLS Cup on Memorial Day weekend in May.
After a month-long preseason, the season kicks off Feb. 19-21 with “MLS is Back” weekend featuring a standalone match between Inter Miami CF and FC Cincinnati, as well as 13 other matches Saturday and Sunday.
RSL will debut a week later with a road trip to Seattle, with kickoff Sunday, Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. MT at the site where Salt Lake has won four of its previous seven visits.
Amid a stretch of Utah winter, Real Salt Lake will play its first four matches on the road, including Feb. 27 at San Diego FC, March 6 at the Colorado Rapids, and March 13 at San Jose.
The club’s spring home opener arrives Saturday, March 20 against FC Dallas — the winningest road team on the Wasatch Front in the last 21 MLS seasons. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. MT on Apple TV.
After the road-heavy opening month, travel becomes significantly more manageable with just three road games scattered among the next eight matches following the March 27 hosting of St. Louis City SC.
The regular season wraps up May 8 against Houston at America First Field in Sandy, where the Dynamo have won just once in the last 14 visits.
