Real Salt Lake will be replacing at least one coach this offseason
RSL assistant coach Nate Miller is returning to his roots as the first-ever head coach of Athletic Club Boise for the USL League One expansion side's inaugural season.
There will be a coaching change at Real Salt Lake in the 2025-26 offseason.
RSL assistant coach Nate Miller was named the first-ever head coach of USL League One expansion side Athletic Club Boise on Friday, returning the highly regarded coach and tactician to the organization where he previously lead San Diego Loyal SC and Lansing Ignite.
Miller, 39, has been with RSL since 2024, rising to become perhaps Pablo Mastroeni’s top assistant for each of the past two seasons since the Loyal cased operations after the 2023 season.
The Jerusalem native who was raised in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and played college soccer at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana, guided San Diego to a 16-9-9 record and USL Championship playoff berth in their final campaign, after previously helping Lansing to a second-place finish in League One following their inaugural season.
Now he’ll be tasked with building a franchise from scratch in an AC Boise club that revealed its brand identity in June in honor of Athletic Club Bilbao and as a nod to the Treasure Valley’s rich Basque heritage.
“I’m grateful to Real Salt Lake — to Pablo, the team, and everyone there — for the
experiences and trust they’ve given me,” Miller said in a statement from AC Boise. “Now I’m ready to take what I’ve learned and help build something special here. My family and I can’t wait to make Boise home.”

The club, which will also launch a women’s team in the USL Super League in 2027, will play on a 30-year lease at a privately funded stadium at the county fairgrounds in Ada County, near the Boise suburb of Garden City.
Plans for the stadium, which includes an option to expand as large as 11,000 seats, include incorporating an existing grandstand of the former Les Bois horse racing track that includes 6,225 seats to begin play.
AC Boise is one of seven expansion teams that will grow the third-division USL League One to 20 teams in 2026.
