Round of 32 results, and full live draw from US Open Cup Round of 16
And then there were 16 (or 14 from Major League Soccer) ...
And just like that, there were 16 left.
Real Salt Lake’s wild 4-3 road win over the Portland Timbers highlighted an emotional roller coaster in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup fourth round, a round that saw 14 clubs from Major League Soccer advance to the Round of 16.
Maikel Chang had a brace to lead the Claret-and-Cobalt, whose Eli Manning-like run to the fifth round for the first time since 2015 included a second road victory after striking out on their first five road trips in the competition in club history.
Now the Road Warriors are going to a place they’ve only gone twice before: during a historic runner-up finish in 2013 and another trip to the Open Cup semifinals in 2015.
In the Central region, Austin FC will host the Chicago Fire and the Houston Dynamo will host Minnesota United. The winner of Austin and Chicago will host the quarterfinal in the tournament that now shifts toward a true bracket play.
In the Northeast region, the New York Red Bulls will host FC Cincinnati and the USL Championship’s Pittsburgh Riverhounds will host Columbus Crew.
In the Southeast region, fellow USL side Birmingham Legion will host Charlotte FC and Inter Miami will host Nashville SC.
In the West region, which was drawn last, the Colorado Rapids will host Real Salt Lake and LAFC will host the LA Galaxy in an All-Trafico matchup in the Open Cup.
The Round of 16 will be played May 23-24, followed by the quarterfinals June 6-7, semifinals Aug. 23 and the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championship game Sept. 27.
