RSL rookie Kevin Bonilla out for the season after successful knee surgery
The former Portland standout was selected with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft in December.
Real Salt Lake rookie Kevin Bonilla underwent successful surgery to repair injuries in his left knee Thursday afternoon, the club announced late int he day.
The injury occurred Feb. 14 during a preseason match against Toronto FC in Santa Barbara, California. Bonilla has not played since.
The former Portland standout who was selected with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft in December is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024 season, per RSL senior director of athlete health and performance Theron Enns.
Bonilla, who won West Coast Conference Defender of the Year in his final season with the Pilots, underwent surgery by Dr. C. Dain Allred at Intermountain Utah Valley Hospital in Provo to repair injuries to the ACL and LCL ligaments. He’ll begin working with the RSL medical staff next week as he begins his rehabilitation.
