Salt City College Soccer Player of the Week: MacKenzee Vance, FW, BYU
Every week of the 2024 season, Salt City FC will recognize a top Division I women's soccer player from Utah for excellence on the field.
After opening the season pulling the strings in BYU’s midfield, UCLA transfer MacKenzee Vance has made the move forward — and the Cougars are glad she did.
The graduate transfer scored two goals as BYU stretched its unbeaten run to three-straight after their first loss of the year in Big 12 play.
Vance scored the equalizer in the 76th minute of a 2-2 draw with Oklahoma State to help the Cougars stay afloat, then added another in a 3-1 win over Iowa State on South Field for her third in a BYU uniform.
Pushed forward by the insertion of Lucy Kesler at defensive midfield and fellow freshman Mika Krommenhoek to a more advanced position than she’s ever played, Vance paired with game-winning goal-scorer Allie Fryer for the most goals BYU has produced in a single match all year in the Cougars’ win over the Cyclones.
“New position,” Vance said, “but I kind of like it.”
The redshirt junior is second on the team (behind Fryer) with two goals on 22 shots and eight shots on target as BYU (5-4-3, 3-1-1 Big 12) travels to Arizona for a Friday night kickoff at 8 p.m. MDT at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Soccer Stadium in Tucson, Arizona.
That’s the first match of a three-game road trip that will take the Cougars to Kansas and Kansas State before returning to Provo to host Baylor Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. MDT to begin a three-match run that wraps up the regular season.
