The second week of the NCAA Division I women’s soccer season saw more of Utah’s seven teams picking up their first win of the year, and one that hasn’t yet allowed a goal.
Each week, we’ll rank the state’s seven NCAA Division I women’s soccer teams based on the week’s results, season’s body of work, and level of difficulty in competition, as well as any regional or national honors that may come their way.
It’s early. But a familiar name sits atop the list as the 2026 season begins. There’s almost no chance these rankings won’t move throughout the year.
So let’s have a little fun.
BYU (2-1-0)
The Cougars are halfway to a Big Ten West title after a 2-1 win over USC when Emma Hamberlin scored her first career brace Saturday night in a home opener at South Field.
With the win, BYU bounced back from a 1-0 loss at Wisconsin in the second of four-straight matches to open the 2026 regular season against Big Ten foes. The Cougars will wrap up the stint Thursday against Minnesota (7 p.m. MT, ESPN+) as part of a four-game homestand with a spot still secured in the United Soccer Coaches’ top 25.
Utah State (2-1-1)
Ellie Hendrix scored the only goal of the match from 25 yards out, and Ivy Nystrom made five saves — including stopping a second-half penalty kick — to earn her second-straight shutout in goal, 1-0 Monday night at Utah Valley.
The Aggies are on a three-match unbeaten streak ahead of Thursday’s road match at Utah, and still host Utah Tech and BYU, to name a few.
That Sept. 10 home match against the Cougars, in particular, should be must-see magic — especially if the two sides continue on their continue trajectory.
Utah (2-0-1)
Fifth-year senior goalkeeper Anna Solomon made two saves as the Utes kept their season-opening shutout streak alive with a 3-0 win over Southern Utah during a lengthy weather-delayed match Saturday afternoon at Ute Soccer Field.
The Oregon transfer joins Lindsey Luke as the only two Utah goalkeepers in program history with clean sheets in the first three matches of the season, the first since 2013. Utah also shut out its first three opponents in 2005 while playing two goalkeepers.
The Utes face their biggest test of the season Thursday hosting in-state rival Utah State (7 p.m. MT, ESPN+).
Utah Valley (0-2-1)
The Wolverines remained winless on the season — by the slimmest of margins — after Monday’s loss to Utah State.
Freshman goalkeeper Emily Bergero made eight saves in her first start between the pipes for Utah Valley, which has struggled to find the back of the net in scoring just one goal in its first three matches.
Snakebit or what, the Wolverines’ difficult nonconference schedule continues Thursday hosting No. 12 Kansas at 7 p.m. MT at UCCU Stadium.
Weber State (2-1-1)
The Wildcats won two games by identical margins, first going on the road to knock off Wyoming 2-1 before returning home to host Oregon State.
Davis High grad Simone Packer converted a penalty kick against the Beavers (1-3), and Skyridge grad Amanda Caswell scored the match-winner to push Weber State to a 2-1-1 start before Saturday’s road trip to Long Beach State.
Southern Utah (2-2-0)
More than three hours with a lightning delay and goals by Utah’s Brooke Gardner, Katie Callaway and Julia Oka combined to snap the Thunderbirds’ two-match winning streak.
SUU will wrap up a five-match road trip to open the season Thursday at Sacramento State.
Utah Tech (1-2-1)
After a 3-2 exhibition win at UNLV, the Trailblazers are winless against Division I opponents in the regular season after Sunday’s 3-0 home loss to Portland that was shortened due to extreme heat.
Jocelyn Wright had a goal and an assist to pick up Utah Tech’s first win of the year, 3-1 over Division II Westminster last Thursday night at Greater Zion Stadium. The Trailblazers hit the road again to travel to UC Riverside on Thursday before returning home to host Utah on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. MT.
