Salt Lake is back in the NJCAA semifinals, but it's only part of the journey of Bruins head coach
SLCC women's soccer coach Cassie Ulrich keeps winning after Bruins' 1-0 win over No. 6 Monroe.

EVANS, Ga. — Another day, another upset for Salt Lake Community College women’s soccer team at the NJCAA national tournament at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Georgia.
First-match hero Jordan Roe scored the only goal of the match in the 13th minute as the 10th-ranked Bruins stunned No. 6 Monroe Community College, 1-0 on Monday evening, guaranteeing SLCC a spot in the NJCAA semifinals.
Theresa Wiesiolek, the Region 18 goalkeeper of the year, made one save on eight shots faced for the Bruins (14-3), who wrap up Pool C play Tuesday before a reseeded bracket ahead of Thursday’s semifinals.
The NJCAA Division I women’s soccer championship match is scheduled for Saturday, and a return trip would be deja vu for SLCC head coach Cassie Ulrich.

The second-year head coach of the Bruins’ women’s soccer program was an assistant coach on the men’s and women’s squads that both advanced to the NJCAA national championship match during the spring 2021 season. The men’s team went on to win the national title, while the women finished runners up with a 15-2-1 overall record a year before then-coach Mark Davis turned over the program to his top assistant in favor of a full-time position with the men’s program.
Since then, Ulrich has done little else besides win. In her first season at the helm, she led the Bruins to the NJCAA national semifinals as the No. 5 seed, finishing the year with a 16-4-1 record with five wins over top-15 opponents. The West District Coach of the Year in 2021, Ulrich also spent time this past summer as goalkeeper coach of Minnesota Aurora FC, the pre-professional program that exploded in popularity en route to the USL W League championship game against South Tormenta (Georgia) FC.
The club plans to pursue professional opportunities as an NWSL expansion club, according to a letter from club officials to fans.
And Ulrich has a shot at another title.
After Sunday’s 3-1 win over Butler, SLCC and No. 9 Iowa Western of Pool D are the only 2-0 teams in the tournament before top-seeded Tyler’s match against Barton and No. 2 Hill’s match against Eastern Florida State on Tuesday morning.
The fourth-ranked Salt Lake men’s soccer team faces No. 5 Iowa Western at 3:30 p.m. MT Tuesday in Melbourne, Florida. All matches are streamed live on the NJCAA Network.
