The USWNT is coming back to Utah.
Word leaked Wednesday through a video board during a U.S. Open Cup semifinal match between Inter Miami CF and FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium that the United States women’s national team would return to the Wasatch Front to face Colombia on Oct. 26 in Sandy, Utah.
Eagle-eyed observers on X (we would embed the video here, but apparently Substack and the platform formerly known as Twitter are still fighting) spotted the advertisement during the first half of the Open Cup match featuring a sizeable audience on CBS Sports GOLAZO Network due Lionel Messi’s appearance with the Herons in the Queen City.
Here is the same video via YouTube (have you subscribed yet?).
The Athletic’s Meg Linehan confirmed the date, along with an Oct. 29 friendly against Las Cafeteras in San Diego.
Real Salt Lake did not return a message seeking comment. U.S. Soccer has not formally announced the dates.
But the proposed dates line up with a FIFA-approved international window for post-World Cup play, and follow Sept. 21 and Sept. 24 friendlies against South Africa in Cincinnati and Chicago.
The set of matches would mark the 11th and 12th meetings all-time between the Lady Yanks and Colombia, following last year’s June friendlies in Colorado and Utah that preceded CONCACAF W Championships play. The United States won both meetings to improve to 9-0-1 all-time against Las Cafeteras, who lost to England 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the World Cup.
The only draw came during a 2-2 stalemate during the 2016 Olympics.
Former BYU star Ashley Hatch was called up for those matches, appearing as a substitute in the USWNT’s 2-0 win at America First Field, the home of Real Salt Lake.
Sandy is also where U.S. star Alex Morgan made her USWNT debut, on a snowy night that included celebratory snow angels.
