VINEYARD, Utah (May 28, 2025) — Utah United remained unbeaten in USL League Two play in 2025 with a 2-0 win Tuesday night over visiting Flatirons FC on the west campus of Utah Valley University.
A venue change pushed the club from their usual home of Clyde Field to the Geneva Fields and practice complex a few miles from the Orem, Utah-based university. But Utah United settled right in at home with consistent first-half pressure capped by Tyler Ware’s first goal of the season.
The UNLV forward from Hooper, Utah gave Utah United the lead in the 26th minute that goalkeeper Roark Looney helped make stand up.
Ellis Spikner doubled the advantage in the second half, when the former Oregon State standout who prepped at Salt Lake City’s Skyline High finished a through-ball over the top from Utah Valley’s Alex Fritcher in the 54th minute to help Utah United secure all three points.
“Fritch played me a perfect pass,” Spikner said. “All I had to do was finish.”
Quotable: Utah United head coach Mark Davis
“We played well, especially the first 45 minutes. I was really proud of the way we moved the ball, the way we created; I thought we were good in all three thirds, especially defensively. We built when we needed to build, we clipped when we needed to clip. We had a really good game plan, and I thought that the boys executed the game plan perfectly.”
Player of the Match
Tyler Ware: The UNLV attacker and former top goal scorer in Utah’s 6A classification at Fremont High scored his first goal of the year that broke the deadlock midway through the first half for the game-deciding goal.
