OREM, Utah (May 28, 2025) — Utah United women kept rolling in the club’s inaugural USL W League campaign Tuesday.
Ellie Walbruch tallied a first-half brace with an assist, Seven Castain added a second-half double, and Sarah Mathis picked up her first shutout in goal as Utah United rolled to an 8-0 win over Colorado’s Flatirons FC at Clyde Field on the campus of Utah Valley University.
The squad of collegiate stars all from or with ties to the state of Utah has won back-to-back games by a combined 13-0 after opening with two games at home. United will travel to Colorado for the first of three straight matches to end the week Thursday at 4 p.m. MT against CISA.
Utah returns to Clyde Field on June 12 to host the Colorado Storm (6 p.m. MT, SportsEngine Play).
After near-wholesale squad rotations five days after making the club’s debut, Walbruch opened the match with a straight shot into the lower right corner in the third minute of play.
The BYU forward doubled the advantage 10 minutes later, converting from the spot after Kaylie Chambers drew a penalty in the 12th minute that gave Utah all the room it needed.
But they weren’t done yet.
Walbruch found Tess Werts in the 20th minute, and the Utah State striker from Portland who also played at Corner Canyon High in Draper.
Chambers bagged a goal herself after Walbruch’s shot was saved by Flatirons goalkeeper Rebecca Winton in the 42nd minute, and Lily Hall added a fifth goal a minute later after another Winton save to push the host’s lead to 5-0 at halftime.
Sierra Pennock opened the second half with her first goal of the campaign, uncorking a shot from the edge of the area into the top shelf in the 49th minute.
Castain, who started Thursday before coming on as a second-half sub, finished off her second brace in as many matches with goals in the 51st and 70th minutes as the TCU attacker from Draper continued her stellar run of form.

Quotable: Utah United head coach Scott Halasz
“I think the stretch that we have here is testing the depth of the squad. But I thought today continued to show the quality that we have from all the players. Another shutout was great, and we want to continue doing that. But scoring more goals and just keep showing that we love to attack is huge.”
