GOLDEN, Colo. (June 7, 2025) — A shorthanded Utah United kept rolling on its inaugural USL W League season with a 3-0 road win Friday evening over Flatirons FC.
Kate Howes, Ruby Hladek and Kaylie Chambers each scored a goal for Utah United (5-0, 15 points), and Taylor Rath and Sarah Mathis split the shutout at Stermole Soccer Stadium on the campus of Colorado School of Mines.
Howes, the Memphis forward from Bountiful, opened the scoring just three minutes into the match and United never looked back in collecting its fourth shutout of the year.
Hladek, the former BYU midfielder who spent the past two seasons at Utah Valley and earned All-WAC first-team honors last fall, doubled the advantage in the 31st minute as the Utah side rated No. 4 nationally in this week’s USL W League power rankings took a 2-0 halftime advantage against a Flatirons group (2-2, 6 points) it beat 8-0 just 10 days prior in Orem.
Chambers, who will be a senior at Utah State in the fall, finished off the scoring in the 78th minute, rising up like a salmon for a header that put the match out of reach.
Quotable: Utah United head coach Scott Halasz
‘The second time playing a team always presents a different picture from the first. Today we played against a very organized group that limited certain spaces to play in. In the end, we created plenty of opportunities while limiting them to very few. Coming away with 3 points was our goal and we accomplished it.”
Player of the Match:
Ruby Hladek: Absent several players including top scorers Seven Castain and Ellie Walbruch, Hladek started and went all 90 minutes for Utah, scoring the second goal and helping secure the fourth shutout in five games.
