Utah Valley is upgrading its soccer-specific stadium, and it's really cool to see
The only Division I men's soccer program on the Wasatch Front (and its accompanying women's team) will soon have a new $20 million soccer-specific stadium to call its own.
The only NCAA Division I men’s soccer program (and its corresponding women’s team) on the Wasatch Front will soon have a new home.
Utah Valley University announced a new soccer-specific stadium that will be built over the program’s existing Clyde Field in Orem, with a price tag of $20 million for significant upgrades that will include expansion to just over 3,000 seats.
The new stadium was made possible by donation by financial institution Utah Community Credit Union during a scholarship campaign that raised $350 million, including $28.5 million from the bank, according to the university.
The upgraded stadium will be built on the west side of Clyde Field next to the UCCU Center basketball arena and UCCU Ballpark, and will offer brand-new, state-of-the-art locker rooms; team lounge for both programs; additional locker space for visiting teams and officials; 400 additional chairback seats; covered plaza seating; a Major League Soccer-style press box and broadcast booth; and 10 luxury suites each holding 16 guests for corporate sponsors and high-end donors.
The new stadium will also feature open-air patios on the north and south end of the field, and a concession plaza behind the chairback seats, new video and scoreboards on the north end of the facility, and a VIP entrance near Event Center Drive, just off the University Parkway exit on I-15.
“This is a transformational game-changer for our student-athletes,” UVU athletic director Jared Sumsion said. “We’re grateful for our long-term partnership with Utah Community Credit Union and shared commitment in the future of our community and state. UCCU Soccer Stadium will be among the finest in the country and will provide the best premium experience that NCAA soccer has to offer.”
Construction for the project will be announced later, but when it is complete will bring a state-of-the-art complex for two programs that rank among the top-15 nationally in attendance in college soccer.
“I love soccer, the world’s ‘fútbol!’ UCCU Stadium will take this sport to the next level for our student-athletes and fans,” UVU President Dr. Astrid S. Tuminez said. “It will give our men’s and women’s soccer programs an exceptional competitive advantage and open many doors for our student-athletes. We are grateful to Bret VanAusdal and the team at UCCU for their vision, support, and partnership with this stadium and in so many other impactful ways on campus and in our community.”
Utah Valley’s men’s soccer program is currently coached by former Real Salt Lake legend Kyle Beckerman, whose team is 4-7-1 in Beckerman’s second season with a 2-4 mark in Western Athletic Conference play. The Wolverines host in-state rival Utah Tech at 6 p.m. MT Friday.
The Wolverines’ women’s soccer team is led by Chris Lemay, whose team is 11-3-3 with a 7-1-1 mark in the WAC. Utah Valley concludes the regular season Thursday and Saturday night against in-state rivals Southern Utah and Utah Tech, respectively. Both matches will stream live at 6 p.m. MT on ESPN+.
