Utah Valley planning ambitious schedule to debut $20 million+ stadium
The Wolverines' 2025 schedule includes six Power Conference opponents, including a pair of SEC teams at home in perhaps the most ambitious schedule in program history.
OREM, Utah — Thanks to a generous donation from Utah Community Credit Union, Utah Valley University spared little expense in constructing what may be the nicest stadium in the Western Athletic Conference.
Construction on the state-of-the-art UCCU Stadium, with its price tag well over $20 million, is scheduled to be finished by July — with portions of it even earlier — and the Wolverines have planned for the inauguration of the 3,000-seat stadium with one of the most ambitious home schedules in program history.
The three-time defending WAC regular-season champion Wolverines women’s soccer team released their schedule this week — and there’s a lot of meat on it.With six matches against Power Conference opponents and eight teams that reached the NCAA Tournament last season, RPI and strength-of-record shouldn’t be an issue for head coach Chris Lemay’s team.
Only one non-power conference team will visit Orem in five nonconference home matches — a Monday, Sept. 8 tilt against WCC foe Gonzaga. The Wolverines will also play host to teams from the Big 12, ACC and SEC beginning Monday, Aug. 18 when in-state rival visits the venue formerly known as Clyde Field.
"We are especially excited for this upcoming fall season with the opening of our new UCCU Stadium," Lemay said. "Intentionally we positioned the program to be home heavy and bring in some of the best teams from across the country that compete in some of the toughest conferences.
“Hosting teams from the Big 12, SEC and ACC will be a challenge for our group but one that we feel like we will be prepared for. The commitment and investment in soccer at UVU has been impressive, and we want to make the university and community proud with the product that we put on the field."
Additionally, the Wolverines will play road games at Big 12 foes Kansas (Aug. 21) and BYU (Sept. 12), with in-state roa trips to Weber State (Sept. 15) and Utah State (Sept. 18) before WAC play begins at home against Tarleton State.
The Wolverines are also scheduled to host the WAC Tournament, beginning Nov. 5-8.
Ambitious? Perhaps. Difficult? No doubt.
But Utah Valley has won or shared three-straight WAC regular-season championships and only been to the NCAA Tournament once — a 3-0 loss to crosstown rival BYU back in 2022.
The Wolverines won double-digit games each of the past two seasons, including a 12-5-2 record last year that included a 6-0-1 mark in league play. But because a late 3-2 loss to California Baptist in the semifinals of the WAC Tournament, Utah Valley stayed home.
The reasoning? Unofficially, the Wolverines were left out in large part because of a strength-of-schedule that didn’t stand up against power-conference teams and an RPI ranked well below even a few teams with head-to-head losses.
That shouldn’t be a problem this fall — assuming much of the schedule translates into wins.
