Welcome back to the Podcast
A long, long time ago — before the word "Substack" was a thing — there was a podcast feed from Salt City FC. And this is a tribute to it.
Thanks for spending part of your morning with Salt City FC, the official podcast covering Real Salt Lake, Real Monarchs and soccer on the Wasatch Front.
What once started as a labor of love has grown into — well, more of a labor of love, as we’ve expanded from a humble podcast feed to a cheery Twitter presence, an Instagram feed, and now a regular newsletter about RSL and soccer in Utah.
But we haven’t forgotten our roots. Which is why we’re excited to re-announce the Salt City FC podcast.
We know it’s been a while, and some things may sound a little different. We’re a low-budget, independent podcast about soccer in the state of Utah after all — and we can only grow as fast as you will allow us.
But join Sean each week as he breaks down Real Salt Lake — home and away — with Salt Lake Community College head coach Mark Davis. Between the two of them, they have won a national championship — and we’re pretty sure there isn’t another soccer podcast in Utah that can say the same thing (don’t fact check us on that … unless it’s true, then please do).
Each week, we’re going to look back on Real Salt Lake’s most recent fixture, look ahead to the games that matter, and check in on soccer around the state, country and world as we try to localize the Beautiful Game to the people of Utah.
This week, Sean and Mark sat down to look at RSL’s 2-1 win over Nashville SC, the club’s fourth-straight result and third-straight win to start the season that has them tied for first place in the Western Conference. Is RSL really as good as they’ve looked in the opening month of the 2022 campaign?
The guys discuss Pablo Mastroeni’s early imprint on the club, Tate Schmitt’s early breakout, and whether it’s too early to decide if RSL are MLS Cup contenders (spoiler alert: it probably is … but that doesn’t mean we won’t talk about).
Listen to the podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or where ever else you subscribe to audio engagement. And while you’re there, smash that Like button, and leave us a rating and review so we can #GrowTheGame — in Utah and across the Internet.
